School Summary
Welcome to Aldrin Elementary School, where every member of our diverse community is valued and supported in their journey of learning and growth. Our mission is simple yet powerful: Every Student. Every Day. Whatever It Takes.
At Aldrin, we envision an educational environment where all students receive an equitable and enriched education. We are committed to:
- building strong relationships
- encouraging a growth mindset
- holding ourselves and others to high expectations
- continuously striving for improvement
- valuing every member of the Aldrin community
- understanding the impact of our words
- empowering each other to succeed
Named after Dr. Buzz Aldrin, one of the first astronauts to walk on the moon, Aldrin Elementary opened its doors in September 1994. Since then, we have embraced the philosophy of being a family and have remained dedicated to nurturing the whole child. Embracing diversity and staying forward-thinking is our priority.
Our Preschool (which includes Preschool Autism classes) through sixth-grade students are taught by dedicated and talented staff who care about each student—they all belong to all of us. Staff members are life-long learners who believe in collaborative teamwork to ensure students are provided with the best instructional practices and outstanding learning opportunities. Our collaborative learning teams continuously review student performance to identify strengths and opportunities for growth for each student. Our commitment to excellence focuses not only on academic standards but extends to the social and emotional well-being of our students.
Aldrin students are challenged to meet or exceed Virginia Standards of Learning and Fairfax County Program of Studies requirements. Our staff provides meaningful and enriching lessons tailored to each student's individual needs.
Communication is at the heart of our community. We believe in positive, two-way communication between parents and staff. Quarterly Principal Coffees are held in-person and virtually to provide a forum for information exchange and updates on academic, health, and school-related information. Collaboration among teachers and staff ensures that each student receives the support they need to excel.
Technology plays a crucial role at Aldrin Elementary. Empowered by a one-to-one digital environment with laptops, 3D printers, iPads, and personalized apps, we ignite learning through enriched learning opportunities. Beyond the classroom, students engage and explore with lessons taught in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM), Advanced Academics, and Library/media classes. Students learn to embrace, connect, build, and reflect on the five important Portrait of a Graduate attributes (Collaborator, Communicator, Creative and Critical Thinker, Ethical and Global Citizen, and Goal-Directed and Resilient Individual.) At Aldrin Elementary, we provide the tools that students need for success.
Family involvement is key to our students’ success. Whether through volunteering, participating in the PTA, or supporting learning at home, the home-school partnership plays a vital role in our community.
