Mr.Wolfe and School Board Member Melanie Meren have great plans for Aldrin's outdoor learning. They wanted to continue our outdoor learning space to include a pollination meadow. Our 4th-grade teacher Kevin Curtis has organized the Aldrin Green Team to help make this vision a reality.  The student-led Green Team with staff members as ambassadors of our environmental stewardship efforts at Aldrin began planning and preparing for this day.

School Board Members Melanie Meren and Elaine Tholen join Principal, Shane Wolfe, and Kevin Curtis joined with the FCPS Department of Public Works and Environmental Services to create the Aldrin pollination meadow.  See how students gain ownership in the project as they are the planters of native plants that will be fundamental in water management filtration.  Students will be planting milkweed which is part of our 2nd-grade curriculum, Echinacea (coneflower) which is studied in 5th grade alongside our Native American studies, as well as planning other grasses and flowers to help with water filtration.

Our Green Team is also working on earning an Eco-flag through the FCPS Eco-Schools Program.

Thanks to Mr. Wolfe and Ms. Meren for this great idea. Thank you Mr. Curtis for leading our students and staff in learning about the rain garden and putting water back where it belongs.  Also, thanks to FCPS Department of Public Works and Environmental Services for funding and helping to make the pollination garden a success at Aldrin.
