Welcome Nike!
Several volunteers certified by the Alliance of Therapy Dogs (ATD) have generously offered to visit Aldrin Elementary with their certified therapy dogs at some point during this school year. The first dog volunteer, Nike the Havapoo, will begin visits on November 11th.
We are thrilled with all the possibilities that having trained therapy dogs at school will offer, including working with students in small groups, reading with children, and helping children to practice their fluency skills. Additionally, the simple presence of a therapy dog at school can bring joy, provide non-judgmental support, and lower the stress levels of children, which optimizes learning capacity. Every therapy dog that plans to visit Aldrin has passed all the requirements of ATD, is insured, and is up to date on vaccinations.
