Band and Strings
Aldrin Strings teacher, Mrs. Chelsea Haislip, received a Master of Music Education; Instrumental and a Bachelors of Music/Music Education (Strings) from the University of South Carolina, Columbia, SC (USC-Carolina). Ms. Schwoyer was the Assistant Director at USC’s String Project during graduate school. The String Project provided instrumental strings instruction to Columbia area students (elementary through adult). While attending USC, she was a member of the USC Symphony Orchestra and the Concertmaster of the USC Campus Orchestra. Chelsea’s primary instrument is the violin. Teaching in FCPS since 2012 as the Orchestra Director at Aldrin ES, she also teaches at Herndon ES and Lake Anne ES (3rd grade strings program).
Students may join Strings in 4th grade:
- 4th Grade: Beginning Strings (meet once a week for an hour)
- 5th Grade: Beginning/Intermediate Strings (meet once a week for an hour)
- 6th Grade: Intermediate/Advanced Strings (meet once a week for an hour)
*classes are not made up for testing, school holidays, or snow days
Reminders for Strings Class:
- Weekly Practice Records are turned into Mrs. Haislipr every class!
- Please remind your child to get them signed and bring them to Strings Class!
Did you know that all elementary students in FCPS attend weekly art and music class? Also, 62 percent of all eligible FCPS students in grades 4-12 take a fine and performing arts elective.
The FCPS School Board sponsors three fine and performing arts field trips annually. Fourth graders attend the National Symphony Orchestra’s Young People’s Concert at the Kennedy Center; sixth graders visit one of four museums: National Gallery of Art, National Portrait Gallery, American Art Museum, or National Museum of the American Indian; seventh grade theater students attend a live theatrical performance at the Kennedy Center.
